Frequently Asked Questions

I have several employees who need WHMIS training, how do I do that online?
As a corporation you may purchase as many course keys as you require. When you Register, choose the option “Multiple course keys – Corporation”. Complete the step-by-step registration process.
There are options for completion of payment:

(1) If you choose to complete the transaction directly online using your Visa or MasterCard, you will received an email with your confirmation of purchase, your login information as well as all course keys ordered. Using this method of payment you will be able to start your online training almost immediately.

(2) If you choose to use one of the alternate methods of payment, you will then receive an email with an invoice for the keys you ordered along with company contact information in order to arrange for completion of payment. Upon receipt of your payment, another email will be sent to you providing you with the course keys.

After payment is complete and you have received your course keys, you may then assign the course keys to individual employees. Each individual will then insert their course key into the orange box marked “Enter Course Key Here” and click “Verify”. Once the key has been verified the individual employee will be given the opportunity to create their own username and password for future logins.

How will I know when my employees have completed their courses?

We recommend that you ask all your employees to provide you with a copy of the course certificate upon their completion of the course. These certificates should be included in your workplace training records. As the buyer of the course keys you will have administrative privileges which will allow you to view which course keys have been used, the username attached to those course keys, as well as whether the course has been completed or not. This feature does not give you the employee’s scores, it just advises you of successful completion, course in progress or unused course keys.

Our company is HST exempt but the invoice shows HST. How do I get the HST taken off?
There are two options that your company can explore.

If you wish to complete your payment directly online using Visa or MasterCard, the payment will include HST. Upon receipt of your invoice stating that the course is paid for, you can contact our company via telephone with your HST Exemption number and we will refund you the appropriate amount.

Alternately, if you choose to forgo the direct online purchase, our original invoice will still include HST. When you contact us to complete your telephone payment, please provide us with your HST Exemption number. We will reissue your invoice and accept your payment in the amount excluding HST.

How do I purchase this course for someone else to take?

Simply follow the registration process for an individual or corporation in your own name and when you receive the course key you can give it to the other individual. That individual may then enter their course key and will be asked to register as an individual with their name as they wish it to appear on their course certificate of completion.

I have a course key from my employer, what should I do now?
Please enter the course key you received in the orange box titled “Enter Course Key Here” and click “Verify”. You will then be requested to register with your own name, email address and unique username and password.

When does the course key expire?

Course keys do not expire and there is no time limit on their use. They can however only be used by one individual.

How long does the course take? Do I have to complete the course in one session or can I come back and finish later?
This is entirely up to you as an individual. The course is designed so that you may take it at your own pace, pause it and return to complete it later. In a single sitting without any pauses, the course will take approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Are there individual Certificates of Completion after successfully completing the course?

Once you have completed the course successfully, you have the option of printing out your Certificate of Completion and also a wallet card. We strongly recommend that you print out two copies of the Certificate of Completion. Retain one copy for your records and provide one copy to your employer for their records.

How do I print my WHMIS card or Certificate of Completion?
From a computer connected to both the Internet and a printer, go to this website (www.hspinc.ca/training) and login with your username and password. Click on “WHMIS” and click on the image beside the “Print Card”. When you have the image on your screen, click on file and choose print.

What do I do if I lose my username and password or course key?
Please contact us by email and we will resend the username and password to the original email you provided when you registered. If you have lost your course key, the original purchaser of the course key will need to contact us.

What do I do if I did not pass the test?
If you did not pass the test you will receive further instructions by email. These instructions will include contacting us to speak with one of our instructors who will then review the test with you in detail. This is done to ensure that you understand the course material and will be successful on your next attempt at the test. Test questions are randomly generated and you will not necessarily receive the same questions each time you take the test. We want to be sure you understand the course material so that you will be successful.

What happens when more than one person uses the same computer to complete the course?

Due to Internet caching and history, the last individual to logon will be automatically logged in. This can present problems for a new user who will be unable to enter his/her course key. If several individuals do training on the same computer, it will require each person to clean his/her cache and history after each user logs off.

Can more than one user log on to the same computer?
Yes, but there are some things you will have to do for a smooth transition.

The first user needs to log out. There is log out button on the course menu. Click on it. If you have not been on the course for two hours, it will automatically log you out.

When the next user comes on, make sure the second user enters his/her key under “Enter Course Key Here”. Click on  “Verify”. The user will see a screen that shows his/her name and email address. It asks “Is this you?” If it is the user, the user will continue on. If it is not the user, click “This is not me’” and it automatically logs the second user out and brings the new user to the log in screen.

Alternately, after the second user enters the key, the program asks, “Do you want to resume from where you left off?” Click “no” and the new user is sent to the beginning of the the course. If the new user clicks “yes” by mistake, it sends the second user directly to the test, without having taken the course.


I started my course on one computer. Can I finish it on another computer?
Yes. Using your login and password, you can log onto the course from any computer. W
hen you change computers, you will have to start the WHMIS course again at slide one.

What is your pass rate on the final test?
Our pass rate is excellent. Most of the participants, who take the course, pass the final test. We use principles of adult learning to appeal to the auditory and visual learner. It is our experience that people who are not successful have tried to take the course while doing other tasks such as answering the telephone, or checking email. It is our recommendation that when you sign into your Online WHMIS, you have cleared the times so that you can have all your attention focused on the course.
